General Installation Steps:

  • Unscrew the old oil filter and clean the mounting base.
  • Make sure the old gasket is removed from the mounting base.
  • Apply a thin coat of oil to the new filter gasket.
  • Make sure the gasket is seated properly in the base of the filter.
  • Screw the filter on until the gasket contacts the base.
  • Tighten 1 to 1-1/4 turns. Do not exceed 1 to 1-1/4 turns.
  • Use an acceptable filter wrench if necessary.
  • Refill the crankcase, run the engine, and check for leaks.
  • Check the oil level after running the engine.

Maintenance Note: Follow your Mercury owner’s manual for the correct oil filter replacement interval. Oil filters are commonly replaced during scheduled service, such as 100-hour or seasonal maintenance, depending on your engine and usage.

Fitment Note: Oil filter fitment should be verified by outboard model, horsepower, serial number, parts diagram, or existing filter part number before ordering. Please confirm this oil filter is correct for your Mercury or Mercury Racing outboard before purchasing.
